For me, Summer accessories are the best kind. It’s the time of year you can be particularly bold with colour and buy quirky, fun things. Of course it’s important to have some staple essentials in your wardrobe but there’s nothing better than also having a few things that make you (and others) smile.
I’m continuously amazed at how interesting (and sometimes slightly kooky) accessories are viewed by others as ‘brave’ but yet are coveted in the same breath. I’m obviously lacking the ‘best to be safe’ gene! To me, these pieces are little works of art to be collected and bought out time after time.
So with ‘staples’ and ‘unique’ accessories in mind here are my current picks:
Summer for me means gold (yellow or rose) jewellery, basket bags (totally addictive) and the essential hat and sunnies. I am a big fan of the Matches Fashion jewellery edit – they always feature new designers and have really interesting pieces that you might not see anywhere else. I love this oversized single Marte Frisnes earring (they also sell a pair in a smaller size here).
I’m trying not to buy any more basket bags this year as I bought quite a few last year and am running out of storage space. To make up for it I’ll be using bag charms and scarves to give them a different look. I love these fun ones from Greeneyerocks which are all handmade.
I also couldn’t resist getting myself a Fendi pineapple – it’s just a fun way to personalise an otherwise plain bag.
I’ve succumbed to buying myself this Larsson and Jennings watch as I adore it’s elegant, timeless shape and I love that it’s practical to wear but looks stylish at the same time. The Sophie Anderson bag next to it is really unusual – the shape and colours really caught my eye. I think it wouldn’t be too difficult to pack in a suitcase either (which is something worth considering!).
Rebecca de Ravenel’s Les Bonbons earrings are all over Instagram but I fell in love with them long before (it’s also worth following her on insta as she is so chic). After being naughty and buying a similar beaded pair on Etsy here (which, by the way are really great and also handmade) I couldn’t resist buying the real deal in turquoise silk. Both pairs are beautifully made and such fun pieces to wear. They look equally at home with something beachy and bohemian as they do with a plain white silk or linen shirt.
Another brand new to me is Lume Swimwear – I adore their quirky, colourful mochila bags. This Frida Kahlo one is hard to resist!
I usually avoid black/dark accessories at all costs during the Summer as I am sick of wearing dull colours come Spring. However this Eugenia Kim Rebel basket is an exception because it’s so fun.
You may have noticed that I have a bit of a love affair with turquoise, hot pink and orange (and yes, I do sometimes wear them all together!). When the sun’s out I think nothing of mixing and clashing colours and patterns. It’s what makes dressing fun after all.
Why do I have such expensive taste? Ugh! This Noor Fares opal and diamond ring is my kind of dream fine jewellery. Its shape and finery gives it an Art Deco air and the colours and setting are so well considered.
With wallpaper having a renaissance Edgardo Osorio’s collaboration with de Gournay is a very clever one. Aquazzura is still one of my favourite shoe designers – anyone who owns a pair knows how comfortable they are – and I love that he has a heel height to suit everyone. His capsule collections are particularly covetable and his attention to detail is meticulous; even down to the box design.
I chose this pair as I loved the toucans on the toes!
