I don’t think it’s much of a secret that one of my favourite places for a staycation is Babington House. The great thing about it is that it can be enjoyed as a family, a group of friends or as a couple. This time I stayed in the Lodge with my two boys.
The Lodge is a 3-bed cottage that sits at the top of the beautiful tree-lined drive. It is a 1 minute drive/5 minute walk to the main house or you can cycle using one of the beautiful Foffa bikes or call reception to pick you up. Which ever way, it’s no great hardship!
It’s perfect for a family or a group of friends as it has two king size bedrooms, one bunk room, two beautiful bathrooms, a kitchen and a lounge with an open fire.
The lounge is beautifully cosy and the fire place is all set up for you. The kitchen is stocked with bread, eggs & fruit and of course the mini bar if you fancy shaking up a cocktail or three. Although if that all seems like too much hard work you can always call room service!
Also on the ground floor is the tiny but sufficient bunk bed room, one of the king size bedrooms, a separate toilet and bathroom with a claw-foot bath.
Everything is very much in a retro/country style with a bit of a wink and a nudge. The sheets are so crisp and beds so comfy I was trying to work out if I could call a removal van and get away undetected.
Upstairs is the third bedroom (although this does look out onto the drive so is perhaps the noisiest) and stunning separate bathroom with bath and shower.
One of my favourite things was this gorgeous slightly upright, roll-top bath. Such a perfect place for a bit of quality time with a glass of Malbec.
Of course as much as it’s tempting to snuggle up by the fire and watch a good movie whilst taking advantage of room service (which we may have done) it’s also worth venturing down the lovely drive for a swim. (It’s worth noting that if you’re with children there are set swimming times for little ones.)
I am a massive hotel lover and one of the things I can never miss is a hotel breakfast. Babington doesn’t disappoint! In fact all the food here is fantastic.
The gluten-free chocolate muffins are amazing. (The only thing missing for me was some homemade gluten-free bread. )
The lodge is a great place to stay if you want a bit more privacy and some more space but the distance from the main house may not be ideal for some people. We had a great time – so much so that I was tempted to book another night there and then!
I have also stayed in the cabin and stable block rooms which I would also recommend. I’m sure there will be many more posts on Babington to come! For further info and booking visit their website.
